Holding water when you’re rowing is used to come to a quick stop or to turn when it’s on the port or starboard side.

In our video below, you can see a Sea Cadet instructor taking a group of cadets through their paces on a Trinity, and teaching them the correct way to hold water.

The key points to remember about holding water are:

  1. Hold water is a complete stop
  2. Place blade onto surface of water
  3. Hold gentle pressure
  4. Turn if required
